One Pack, Many Fangs

From the furnace lands of the mid-realm rose Syr Ulfur, his banner golden with a black wolf’s head. His hall loomed in a half-light that never lifted, where forges burned red through the night and the days lay choked with black smoke. From that gloom came men tempered as the land itself — hard, hungry.

Into that unnatural twilight came the wolves — cautious at first, then bolder, until fending them from the land became a rite of passage for the young. Yet enmity gave way to respect, and respect to allegiance, as Ulfur’s forebears learned the wisdom of the hunt: to fight as wolves — as a pack.

His cohorts learned the chase — to encircle, to harry, to strike when the quarry faltered. Their foes spoke of ill-met dread, for to face Ulfur was to be shadowed and hounded until broken to dismay.

Surrounded by implacable foes and faulting allies, Ulfur knew survival lay in savagery. An attack on one was answered by all. Fear became his to command, and his lands grew shunned, for when the wolf-banner was raised it heralded more than battle — it meant the hunt: honour stayed, pursuit without mercy, retreat only after the blood-price was exacted. Few who faced Ulfur did so unbled.

Thus was Syr Ulfur known: lord of the hunt, wolf of the mid-realm.
