Strength in Sacrifice

Just west of the Old City stood the hall of Syr Nahul, fair in stature and set beside an ancient ford. To many it was merely a waypoint, a place to be crossed and forgotten, and hardly worth note.

Yet mastery of the ford was Nahul’s true strength, for through it he held sway over all who sought the western road. Others’ armies might outweigh his, their citadels grander, and their purses heavier, but the flow of men and goods still had to cross the ford. To open the way or to close it — this was the quiet power that made his modest domain matter.

Syr Nahul’s cohorts were never immense, but steadfast in their order. Upon his shield he bore the bee, black and gold — emblem of industry and unity. To his people it was a vow: to labour together without cease, and to sting when threatened. Those who scorned his name found that crossing in defiance carried a sore cost.

Thus was Nahul of the Ford known: not by lofty walls or countless men, but by command of the crossing. He could open it in peace or close it in defiance, and in that choice lay the power to trouble even the greatest lords of the realm.
